Personality compatibility test for couples: what it can and cannot tell you

Most couples who look for a compatibility test are not really asking "are we a match?" They are asking why the same small thing keeps turning into the same argument.

A good compatibility read will not settle that question. What it can do is give the two of you words for the difference, so you stop hearing each other as wrong and start hearing each other as built differently.

What a compatibility read can show

Two people can want the same thing and go about it in opposite ways. One needs space after a hard conversation, the other needs to talk it through straight away. Neither is cold or clingy. They are organised differently.

What it cannot tell you

How to use it well as a couple

Each of you takes the assessment separately and answers honestly, not as the person you would like to be. Read your own results first. Then share what felt true and what did not, before you compare anything.

Pick one recurring friction and ask a single question about it: what does each of us need when this happens? Agree on one small thing to try this week, such as "give me an hour, then let us talk". This is a self-reflection tool, not therapy. If the same conflict keeps hurting, a qualified counsellor can help in ways a test cannot.
